Om Namo
Recognized as the father of Medicine and as source of the knowledge on the healing energies of plants, minerals and massages, his teachings traveled to Thailand at the same time Buddhism did. This is how Shivaga Komarpaj became the central figure of the Buddhist medical system in Thailand and the guide and inspiration for all the instructors of Traditional Thai Massage. A practice of Thai massage practitioners is to silently recite the prayer to invoke the spirit of the Father Doctor before rendering a Thai Massage Session.
Honoring the Father Doctor
While in Thailand to further my study of Thai Massage, I learned the significance and meaning of the original Sanskrit prayer which I recorded one day before our daily study. I also was lucky enough during my stay in the country to be introduced to a rural practitioner who has mastered the Thai Herbal Compress and is well respected around the area for the effectiveness of her practice attracting clients from several miles away. She generously spent time with me demonstrating her techniques. This video has a taste of my experiences there.
